Switching mobile operators or numbers in Turkey: updating your exchange accounts in the right order

A new Turkcell, Vodafone or Türk Telekom line can leave your exchange account tied to a number you no longer control. How to update the phone on Binance, OKX, Bybit and Bitget while the old SIM still works, and what to do if it is already gone.

Changing a phone number feels like admin, not security. You port to a cheaper tariff, switch to a corporate line, or let a prepaid number lapse while abroad. Weeks later an exchange asks for an SMS code at login or withdrawal, and the code goes to a number that now belongs to someone else, or to nobody. Updating the number while you still control the old one takes a few minutes per exchange. Doing it afterwards means a recovery request with identity checks.

Make a list before the old SIM goes

Write down every exchange and service where the old number is registered: Binance, OKX, Bybit, Bitget, the email account linked to them, your bank and e-Devlet if it matters for your verification. Keep the old SIM active and in a phone until all of them are updated. If you are porting the same number to a new operator, the number stays yours, but expect a short gap in SMS delivery during the transfer, so avoid scheduling withdrawals that day.

Change the number on each exchange

On each exchange, open the profile, go to Security and choose the phone number entry. The change usually asks for a code sent to the old number, a code sent to the new one and your authenticator or email confirmation. Enter each code in the field that names its source. After saving, log out and back in to confirm the new number receives codes. Withdrawals may be paused for a period after the change; the duration is shown on screen.

If the old number is already gone

On the login or security screen, look for the option saying the phone is unavailable or cannot receive codes. That starts the recovery flow, which typically asks you to confirm your email, upload your verification document and take a selfie. Use the same document you verified with; if your kimlik kartı was renewed since then, mention it. Never ask a mobile shop or a stranger online to receive codes for you, and do not accept help from accounts offering to unlock exchange access.

Reduce your dependence on SMS

SMS codes are vulnerable to SIM swap fraud, where someone convinces an operator to move your number to their SIM. Once your number is updated, add an authenticator app or a passkey on each exchange and, where the settings allow, use it instead of SMS for logins and withdrawals. Ask your operator whether it offers extra protection against unauthorised SIM changes. Keep backup codes on paper, separate from the phone.

Digital assets are volatile and derivatives can amplify losses. This website has no login, wallet connection, deposit form or customer-support chat. Scenario checkpoint

  • List every exchange, email and bank tied to the old number before giving up the SIM.
  • Keep the old SIM active until each exchange shows the new number as saved.
  • Use the in-app recovery flow with your original ID if the old number is already lost.
  • Add an authenticator app or passkey so withdrawals no longer rely on SMS codes alone.
