Adding a passkey to your exchange account from Turkey: setup, backups and a fallback plan
Passkeys resist phishing far better than codes, but they change how you recover access if a device is lost. A setup guide for users in Turkey on Binance, OKX, Bybit or Bitget covering registration, a second device and the fallback methods to keep.
Multiple exchanges | Turkey | TRY | fees, access and account safety
Phishing pages aimed at crypto users in Turkey are often convincing copies of real exchange login screens, sometimes promoted through ads or shared in Telegram groups. A password and a six-digit code can both be typed into such a page and passed straight to an attacker. A passkey works differently. It is a cryptographic credential stored on your device and tied to the genuine website or app, so it simply does not work on a lookalike page. Several major exchanges now support passkeys, and the setup takes only a few minutes. What deserves more thought is the plan around it: which devices hold the passkey, what happens if you lose your phone and which other sign-in methods you keep. This guide covers both the setup and that plan.
Check support and prepare your device
Open the security settings of your exchange and look for a passkey option, then read the matching article in the official help centre for any conditions, such as supported browsers or whether the passkey replaces or supplements other factors. Make sure the phone or computer you will use has a screen lock with a strong PIN or biometric, because the passkey is unlocked with it. Update the operating system and browser first, since passkey support depends on recent versions.
Register the passkey and test it
Follow the prompts to create the passkey, confirming with your fingerprint, face or device PIN. Give it a recognisable name if the exchange allows naming, such as the device model. Then log out completely and log in again using the passkey, to confirm it works before you rely on it. If your passkeys sync through a password manager or cloud keychain, understand that the security of that account now matters as much as the exchange password, so protect it with its own strong second factor.
Add a second device or keep a fallback
A passkey stored on a single phone becomes a problem when that phone is lost, stolen or broken. If the exchange allows several passkeys, register a second one on another device you control, such as a laptop or tablet. Keep an authenticator app active as a fallback where the platform permits, and store its backup key on paper somewhere safe. Write down which methods are active on which exchange, so that in an emergency you know immediately what you still have.
Keep phishing habits even with a passkey
A passkey protects the login step, but scammers may still try other routes: asking you to approve a transaction, to install remote-control software or to move funds to a so-called safe account. Treat unsolicited messages about your account with the same suspicion as before. Keep using an anti-phishing code for emails and a withdrawal address allowlist. The passkey removes one major risk; it does not remove the need for judgement.

Scenario checkpoint
- Read the exchange help centre article on passkeys before enabling one.
- Protect the device holding the passkey with a strong screen lock and current updates.
- Log out and back in with the passkey to confirm it works before relying on it.
- Register a second passkey on another device or keep an authenticator app as a fallback.
- Keep the anti-phishing code and withdrawal allowlist active alongside the passkey.
